Greater Works | Devotional
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” “NKJV”
We often find ourselves in conflict regarding John 14:12; in many instances we prefer to let the other believer assume the responsibility of ‘greater works’. It is not because we do not believe God could use us in some capacity, it is just not in the ‘greater works’ department, that kind of freaks us out. We will sign up to help in prayer meetings, food pantries, Bible studies and even the occasional special event. However, what is Jesus really prophesying over us? Is it something we dare to believe? Or is it something we dare not imagine?
Believe me when I ask these questions, that I have had to wrestle with this scripture verse knowing my weaknesses, limitations, abilities, and failures. The personal inventory assessment we continually utilize to base God’s ability to use us, seemingly, limits His ALMIGHTINESS. Please do not misunderstand me, we all need to walk in the decrees of His Word and live a life led by the Holy Spirit’s direction, teaching, and conviction; I do not want to imply that a compromised walk in Christ will be overlooked by God for the necessity of Devine works. However, God is willing to take someone who is unable or unsure, inexperienced or a little fearful, unschooled or a fisherman and impact a city, a state, a country, the world for the kingdom of God. The ‘greater works’ do not await God, but us, whether we will surrender not only the dark regions of our past to receive forgiveness, but to surrender ALL our life to His purpose without being selective. Becoming wholly yielded remembering it is God who does it through us after all.
For thousand of years, God has taken ordinary men and women and done extraordinary ‘greater works’ through them. Maybe you have been debating (being prompted by God) to take a step where you have not walked before, before you don’t consider this, God has seen the result of your YES Lord…just as He saw the day you accepted His Son as Lord of your life before you could have even imagined it...
Dear Heavenly Father, I see Your patience at work in my life. I have labored in things of no kingdom value and done only what was comfortable and safe for the most part for You, but, I sense a deeper purpose at the threshold of my faith. A door unfamiliar yet welcoming is before me and I hesitate to walk through it because I’ve not been through such a door before. At this time I ask You Heavenly Father to comfort my apprehension, anxiety, and fear, remove my need to understand and know the outcome before hand. I long to serve You Lord with all my heart, soul, mind, and all my strength. Father, You created me, now take me, Your creation, for Your purposes through the doorway threshold and into the realm of ‘greater works’ in Jesus Name, for Your Glory, AMEN...
